Prominent ears can cause facial disproportions and as a result can draw unwanted attention. Dr. Michael Kim performs ear surgery in Portland, Oregon with artistry and skill for both children and adults.
What Is Ear Surgery?
Technically known as otoplasty, ear surgery is performed to create a more natural and pleasing shape while bringing balance and proportion to the face and ears.
What is Ear Surgery Like?
Ear surgery may be performed under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation or under general anesthesia. The operation typically involves making an incision on the back of the ear, through which cartilage is removed or repositioned.
What Is Ear Surgery Recovery Like?
Most patients can expect to return to work and light activities at approximately one week after their Portland otoplasty procedure.
Plan to have someone with you for at least the first 24 hours after surgery. Rest frequently during the first week of recovery but move around occasionally to increase circulation and promote healing. Keep your head elevated to help minimize swelling and discomfort. Do not rest your head on your ear.
You may also have a temporary wrap around the ears followed by the nightly wearing of a loose fitting sports headband to prevent excess pressure and stress on the operative site during the critical healing period.
As of June 30, 2021, Oregon will lift all remaining COVID-19 restrictions. We are very encouraged as we transition into this next phase of recovery. However, given we are a medical facility, we will still adhere to federal guidelines mandating masks in healthcare settings. Please see our updated COVID-19 policy below:
Patients are required to bring and wear masks for the duration of their appointment. If you do not have one, one will be provided.
Online check-in must be completed through our online portal 48-hours prior to the appointment.
To ensure patient privacy, please text us at 503-575-1910 upon arrival and wait in your parked car until you are notified via text message that we are ready to begin your appointment. Complimentary patient parking is located below our building.
We will obtain credit card information over the phone prior to the appointment. Payment will be processed after the treatment is completed. No payment will be handled onsite.
Coronavirus testing will be instituted for all surgeries and select in-office procedures.
We appreciate your continued patience and flexibility. See you soon.
