Can my earlobes be repaired?

The first step is to meet with Dr. Kim in Portland, Oregon, so he can evaluate your earlobes, and devise a customized plan for repair. The procedure is a simple, in-office procedure that can restore the look of your ears.

How are earlobes repaired?

Our Portland earlobe repair surgeries are performed in our state-of-the-art procedure suite. The ears will be marked with a surgical pen followed by numbing with local anesthesia. In order to repair the earlobes, a small portion of the existing earlobe and scar is carefully excised. This is followed by placing fine sutures that will minimize the chance of visible scarring.

What is the recovery from earlobe repair?

The pain from earlobe repair is minimal and therefore easily treated with over-the-counter medication. Patients are instructed to place ointment on the stitches twice daily. In about two weeks, your ears will look presentable, but complete healing will take a full year.

Can I repair the holes from gauged earrings?

Stretched or gauged earlobes are a popular type of body modification that is popular in the Pacific Northwest.

As such, there are also many who are seeking to restore their ears to their original state. People want repair for professional reasons, they are in a different stage in their lives, or they need to fulfill the repair requirement in order to join the armed forces.

Dr. Kim has devised several novel techniques for stretched earlobe repair in Portland that can treat the large variety of earlobe configurations seen with stretching.

How long before I can re-pierce my ears after earlobe repair?

Although every patient heals at a slightly different rate, in most cases the earlobes can be repierced in six weeks. Of note, the re-piercing should not be done on the scar line of the repair but should be placed in a new area.

Practice Policy Update Regarding COVID-19

I hope this update finds all of you safe and healthy. Due to the current COVID-19 situation, we are limiting appointments to those that are necessary only (lacerations or emergencies that do not require a visit to the ER, immediate post-operative patients, etc.). We are still answering calls and email inquiries, so feel free to reach out with any questions or urgent requests. We are also offering virtual consultations via FaceTime or Skype to get your process started until we can see you preoperatively. Although these are difficult decisions, we feel this is important for the good of our community, our patients and their families. If you are currently scheduled to come into the office in the next few weeks, our Patient Care Specialist will be in touch with you regarding the status of your appointment or surgery.

This is an incredibly fluid and evolving situation, but we will return to our normal operations when it is safe to do so. We really appreciate your patience. Just remember that we are all in this together and that we will get through this.
