What Is Kybella?

Kybella destroys fat cells when injected into the submental fat and can produce a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. The active ingredient in this FDA-approved treatment is synthetic deoxycholic acid, a molecule that occurs naturally in the body and aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat.

What Should I Expect?

You may need several treatments to achieve optimal results with Kybella in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Kim will individually-tailor a treatment plan based on your needs and aesthetic goals. Many patients see noticeable results with two to four Kybella treatment sessions spaced at least one month apart.

In each treatment session, you will receive multiple small injections of Kybella under the chin. The process takes approximately 15 minutes to perform. The number of injections required will depend on your treatment goals and the amount of submental fat you have.

What Is Recovery Like after Kybella?

After a treatment session, you can expect to have some discomfort, swelling, bruising, or numbness under the chin. For most people, the swelling subsides after 48 hours.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Kybella?

The ideal candidates for our Portland Kybella injections are men and women 18 years or older with moderate fat deposits beneath the chin.

You may not be a candidate for this procedure if you have had or plan to have facial surgery, are pregnant or nursing, have a medical condition or infection near the site, or have difficulty swallowing.

Alternative procedures such as FaceTite or traditional face and necklift surgery may be suggested for those with poor skin elasticity or if the fat is excessive or inaccessible to the product.

How Long Will My Results Last?

Once fat cells under the chin are destroyed, they are gone for good and can no longer store or accumulate fat. When you reach your goal with Kybella injections, no further treatment should be required if your overall body weight remains consistent.

Practice Policy Update Regarding COVID-19

I hope this update finds all of you safe and healthy. Due to the current COVID-19 situation, we are limiting appointments to those that are necessary only (lacerations or emergencies that do not require a visit to the ER, immediate post-operative patients, etc.). We are still answering calls and email inquiries, so feel free to reach out with any questions or urgent requests. We are also offering virtual consultations via FaceTime or Skype to get your process started until we can see you preoperatively. Although these are difficult decisions, we feel this is important for the good of our community, our patients and their families. If you are currently scheduled to come into the office in the next few weeks, our Patient Care Specialist will be in touch with you regarding the status of your appointment or surgery.

This is an incredibly fluid and evolving situation, but we will return to our normal operations when it is safe to do so. We really appreciate your patience. Just remember that we are all in this together and that we will get through this.

Dr. Kim
